Thursday Night

altWe had some lovely events on the Thursday night of the Festival warm-up week (21 July) and you can see a small selection of photos from these events on our Photos page.

The Ardmore Grange Heritage Group organised a fantastic exhibition of photographs and other memorabilia from bygone days in Halla Dhéagláin. The wide range of quality material on display must have taken many hours to prepare and hundreds of interested people came through the doors to wander amongst the memories and recall days of yore. The Group also had a fabulous array of postcards on sale depicting scenes from the Ardmore of yesteryear. Many thanks to the Ardmore Grange Heritage Group for putting on a fantastic display of Ardmore in Pictures and Print – a fitting warm up to this year’s Festival.

Further up the hill in the Cliff House Hotel, author Cathy Kelly was in conversation with Liz Reddy from WLR FM about her life and times and what it takes to be a successful author in modern day Ireland. The audience listened in fascination as Cathy recounted how she went from being a tabloid journalist to one of Ireland’s most successful female authors. Cathy very obligingly took a range of questions from the audience and happily posed for photos and chatted away as she autographed copies of her books, provided by Festival sponsors, Easons Dungarvan.

Have a look at our photos section of a selection of photos from these two fabulous events.

Friday Night

altThis year’s Pattern festival really got off to a flying start on Friday night (22 July), when the fantastic Rhythm Corporation came to town. They added colour, noise and flamboyance to the village as the drummers and dancers took to the stage shortly after 7pm, as the curtain raisers for this year’s Festival. They really got the crowd going as they played the different coloured ‘boomwhackers’ to create a wonderful cacophony of sound.

Then it was the turn of Jungle Boogie – the fabulous 5 piece band played great sounds from the 50’s right up to date and had the large crowd rocking and rolling! The crowd had swelled to thousands by the time the night sky was lit up by a fantastic Fireworks display by Rocket Pyrotechnics – our best ever to date! What a start to the 2011 Festival!

Then it was on to the local pubs for a wonderful choice of music by Ray Barron & Hank Wedel (Keevers’ Bar), Mick Dunne (Round Tower Hotel) and Scooby Snacks (An Tobar).

For a selection of photos from Friday night, see the Photos section of this site. Thanks to local photographer Gerry O’Mahony for sending on his photos to us.

Some Weekend!

altWell….. after all the build-up and anticipation, the 2011 Ardmore Pattern Festival has come and gone! After the hectic schedule of the past week, the Festival Committee is exhausted, but happy that another successful Pattern Festival has taken place in Ardmore.

We hope you all had a wonderful time and that you enjoyed some of the 70+ events on offer over the past weekend. With fabulous weather, the village of Ardmore basked in the sunshine, while welcoming thousands of people of all ages, who came from all corners to celebrate this year’s Festival with the local community.

From the samba drums and boomwhackers of the opening event with the Rhythm Corporation, to the Fireworks, musical acts on the Festival stage, right through to the fantastic closing event – the Céilí Mór with the Kilfenora Céilí Band – large crowds enjoyed all the events and created a wonderful festival atmosphere in the village all weekend. The streets were thronged, the beach was mobbed, the bay was awash with colour and the Festival Square was rocking from Friday evening right through to Sunday night!

The Committee would like to thank each and every person who helped to make this year’s Festival such a huge success:
-    to all of those individuals and community groups who organised and ran a variety of events on the Festival programme
-    to our wonderful band of stewards who helped out all weekend by manning the stage area, selling in the Festival Shop and generally helping out in whatever way they were asked
-    to the loyal and diligent group of locals who rise with the dawn to make sure the village is litter free each morning of the Festival weekend
-    to everyone who supported us by buying raffle tickets and purchasing Ardmore Pattern Festival merchandise in our Festival Shop
-    to Waterford County Council and the Garda Síochána, who helped out with traffic control and in numerous other ways to ensure that the Festival ran smoothly
-    to everyone who dressed up in fancy dress each night - adding to the colour and festive atmosphere
- and finally, to everyone who came to Ardmore to enjoy this year’s Festival

To all of you we extend our deepest and most sincere thanks for making the 2011 Ardmore Pattern Festival the huge success it was!

We will be putting up some photo albums and stories from this year’s Festival over the coming days and weeks to give you some fond memories of this year’s Festival and to let those of you who couldn’t make it see what you missed!!

Our thanks again to all and here’s to the 2012 Ardmore Pattern Festival!!

The WarmUp Continues

altWe had another great night of warm-up events last night (Wednesday 20th July).

First of all, the village had to be scoured for extra chairs to accommodate the monster crowd who turned up for the Monster Bingo in St. Declan’s Hall! They were seated everywhere – including on the stage – in order to mark off their cards and compete for the fabulous array of prizes on offer. Fr. Milo and the Hall Committee Bingo Team (pictured) had their hands full, but provided a great night’s entertainment for all who came to support the event. Well done to all – a Full House to be sure!

While a packed St. Declan’s Hall played Bingo, some 150 people took off on a Bat Watch tour around the village with Peter O’Connor of Glenribbeen Eco Lodge. Having listened to Peter’s fascinating talk about bats, the intrepid explorers even managed to seek out a bat or two on their travels – including some rare species…. Thanks to Peter and all who attended for another successful Festival warm-up event…..
