Bowled Over!

One of the many successful events held for the first time at this year’s Festival was the Fun Road Bowling. This took place at 10am on Saturday morning, when a group of about 40 enthusiasts of all ages headed off from the Round Tower across a misty Ardo, bowling their way along the road headed towards Whiting Bay.

With more seasoned bowlers playing alongside the novices, the craic was mighty, and the sole female representative, Caroline, held her own with the best of them, giving many a lesson in how to bowl!!! Lest anyone was feeling thirsty or too stressed out from the effort of throwing the bowl along the road, the Downey sisters, Kay and Noreen, provided much-needed refreshments at their homes in Whiting Bay, to finish what was a marvellous morning’s entertainment for all involved. Our sincere thanks to Kay & Noreen for their wonderful contribution to this event.

Check out Will O’Connor’s Flickr site for some fantastic photos from the Road Bowling, as well as some wonderfully atmospheric shots from Liam Suipéil’s fabulous Guided Tour of McKenna’s Castle, attended by over 80 people on Saturday.

More and more photographs are constantly being added to our own PHOTO section on this site, as well as to our Facebook page and other websites, so keep checking back for more images and memories………..
