For Nature Lovers

altWe are delighted to welcome Marine Biologist and Teacher, Dr. Barbara Duff to Ardmore for this year’s Pattern Festival. Barbara will host a Seashore Talk and Guided Tour on Saturday, 28th July at 4.30pm, introducing visitors to the fascinating array of plant and animal life living on the Ardmore shoreline.

The tour will begin with a 40-minute illustrated talk in Keevers’ Bar on the Main Street, where Barbara will show an array of colourful images, bringing alive the largely unknown animals and plants of the seashore, explaining how they survive in their unique environment and enabling participants to identify many of the huge number of different types of animals living in the rock-pools and under the sand.

This talk will be followed by a visit to An Straoileán (the shoreline down by St. Declan’s Stone) where participants are then given the opportunity to explore the seashore with Barbara and to try out their new-found knowledge by identifying the animals and plants living there.

The Seashore Talk & Guided Tour is one of a number of nature walks and tours being organised as part of this year’s Festival – you can also go Bird Watching with Seán Hogan on Saturday morning (meet at the Round Tower Hotel at 8am) and you can go ‘On the Otter Trail’ with Andrew Harrington in Whiting Bay on Sunday morning at 10am. There’s plenty to enjoy for the nature enthusiast!
